The Batterer’s Intervention Program (BIP) for Domestic Violence is a 52-week program designed to help those who have committed domestic violence offenses to avoid repeat instances. These classes are considered both educational and counseling. The program is grounded in the belief that individuals can learn to change their violent behavior patterns and adopt healthier relationship habits through structured intervention.
Objectives of the program include:
- Accountability: Hold participants accountable for their abusive behaviors and help them recognize the impact of their actions on their victims and others.
- Education: Provide education on the dynamics of domestic violence, including power and control, gender roles, and the cycle of abuse.
- Skill-Building: Teach participants non-violent communication, conflict resolution, anger management, and healthy relationship skills.
- Behavior Change: Encourage participants to adopt respectful and non-abusive behaviors in their relationships.
- Empathy Development: Foster empathy for victims and understanding of the consequences of abusive behavior.
This program is focused on recognizing the underlying issues that contribute to their abusive behavior. Participants learn to acknowledge their abusive actions and understand their impact on victims and families. Through a combination of education, counseling, skill-building, and behavior modification, participants will develop skills and strategies to recognize and control their abusive behavior.
