Prescription Drug Addiction Counseling in Riverside and Lake Elsinore
You Followed The Instructions And Still Ended Up Here
Prescription dependence almost never looks like anyone’s picture of addiction, which is exactly why it is so hard to name. There was a real problem. Pain after a surgery, anxiety that was wrecking your sleep, a legitimate diagnosis and a doctor who wrote a legitimate script. You took it the way you were told. And somewhere in there the line moved from taking a medication to needing it, so quietly that you cannot point to the day it happened.
That quietness is the trap. Because it started with a doctor’s blessing, the shame of admitting it has gotten out of hand keeps a lot of people silent far longer than they should be. We work with dependence on painkillers, on sedatives and benzodiazepines, on sleep and anxiety medications, and we do it without treating you like you did something wrong by trusting the prescription in the first place.
Why Stopping Is Not As Simple As Stopping
Here is the part that is genuinely dangerous to get wrong. Several of these medications, especially benzodiazepines and other sedatives, change your body chemistry in a way that makes stopping abruptly not just miserable but medically risky. The pull to keep taking them is not weakness. It is a physical dependence your body built while you were following directions.

How The Work Actually Goes
We work with prescription dependence through outpatient and intensive outpatient counseling, so you can keep your life running while you do the work. Individual and group sessions grounded in the twelve-step model put you with people who understand this without needing the backstory explained, which matters a lot when you have spent months telling yourself it was fine because a doctor signed off.
Because prescription dependence usually sits on top of chronic pain, anxiety, or trauma, we work those alongside the medication rather than as a separate problem for someone else to handle later. Every plan includes aftercare, since the situations that first sent you to the medicine cabinet do not vanish when the program ends. Services are available in English and Spanish, in person and online.
